Julia Smith, Osteopath
Julia enjoys working with people of diverse ages and backgrounds, while tailoring treatment to optimise their health and wellbeing. She has experience managing a variety of complaints, including neck and back pain, headaches and sports injuries. Julia is an accredited Pilates teacher, and she regularly incorporates exercise rehabilitation into her consults.
Other techniques used by Julia include soft-tissue massage, joint mobilisation and manipulation, visceral osteopathy and cranial osteopathy. Julia earned her Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Sciences and Master’s in Osteopathic Medicine at SCU.
Julia has a deep and lifelong connection to movement. Before becoming an osteopath, she trained extensively in all facets of dance — including ballet, jazz, tap, acrobatics, singing and acting — and began working professionally at just 16. Her performance career took her around the world, including as principal dancer at the Moulin Rouge in Paris, and roles across Sweden, Italy, and Australia in musicals, television, cabaret and commercial work.
With years of experience teaching both dance and Pilates (since 2009), Julia has worked closely with dancers, gymnasts and athletes to support performance, recovery and injury prevention. Her transition into osteopathy was a natural evolution, blending her knowledge of the body in motion with hands-on clinical care.
Julia is passionate about integrating movement and manual therapy to support people of all ages — especially young dancers and active kids. She also offers pre-pointe assessments, combining her extensive dance background with her clinical expertise to help dancers progress safely and confidently onto pointe.
